Hurricane Irma Has Hit
Hurricane Irma hit St. Maarten on the morning of Wednesday, September 6, and brought with her a path of destruction never before seen in the the Caribbean. Over 90% of the island was heavily damaged, with many of the homes and businesses destroyed. The ones left standing lost roofs, windows, doors, etc., and were damaged by flooding and sustained winds of 185mph. Following the aftermath of the hurricane all telecommunications, water, and electricity were down. Looting took over and people turned to violence as the authorities struggled to regain control.
