Hurricane Irma – St Maarten

Hurricane Irma hit St. Maarten on the morning of Wednesday, September 6, as the strongest hurricane ever to hit the Caribbean. Leaving in her wake a path of destruction, over 90% of the island was heavily damaged, with many of the homes and businesses destroyed. The ones left standing lost roofs, windows, doors, etc., and were damaged by flooding and sustained winds of 185mph. Following the aftermath of the hurricane all telecommunications, water, and electricity were down. There was an overwhelming sense of loss, confusion and of not knowing where to start…

In the hours and days following Irma, K1 found themselves at the forefront of several immediate relief and response initiatives. And this grew during the next 11 months. See below a daily blog from day one of how it all happened.
